Dr. Félicie Albert to Open APS-DPP 2024 with a Plenary on LaserNetUS
Oct 2, 2024. News
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – LasernetUS is thrilled to announce that Dr. Félicie Albert, Director of the Jupiter Laser Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and former Chair of LaserNetUS, will deliver the highly anticipated opening plenary at the 66th Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics (APS-DPP), taking place in Atlanta, GA, on October 7, 2024.
In her talk, "LaserNetUS—The First Five Years of Scientific Discovery," Dr. Albert will reflect on the groundbreaking advancements achieved since LaserNetUS was established in 2018. The presentation will highlight the pivotal role LaserNetUS has played in driving research in high-intensity laser science, supporting transformative discoveries in plasma physics, and fostering collaboration across the scientific community.
LaserNetUS was launched to provide scientists access to cutting-edge laser facilities in the U.S. and Canada to accelerate discoveries in plasma physics, high-energy-density science, and other fields. Since its founding, the network has facilitated research breakthroughs in areas such as fusion energy, materials science, and particle acceleration.
"In just five short years, LaserNetUS has established itself as a vital part of the scientific landscape, offering researchers access to world-class laser facilities and enabling discoveries that push the boundaries of plasma physics," said Dr. Albert. "I’m honored to share how far we’ve come and look forward to discussing the exciting future ahead for LaserNetUS."
Dr. Albert has been a driving force behind LaserNetUS, having chaired the network from 2020 to 2022. Under her leadership, the program expanded its reach and increased access to laser facilities in North America. Her plenary will showcase how LaserNetUS has become a cornerstone of scientific collaboration and innovation in laser-plasma science.
The annual APS-DPP gathering is the largest conference in plasma physics, attracting thousands of researchers, scientists, and students from across the globe. This year’s event will serve as an important platform to introduce LaserNetUS to a broader community of plasma physicists.
"The APS-DPP meeting provides a unique opportunity to share LaserNetUS with an ever-growing community of plasma physicists," said Dr. Chandra Breanne Curry, LaserNetUS Coordinator. "We hope this presentation will inspire new collaborations, spark innovative ideas, and strengthen LaserNetUS’ role in supporting the energy sciences ecosystem in the United States."
Dr. Albert’s opening plenary will set the tone for the weeklong conference, underscoring the importance of laser-driven plasma research and its far-reaching implications for the future of science and technology.
